State Grant to Finance HCC Culinary Arts Center in Downtown Text Size

A state grant of $1.75 million will allow HCC’s culinary arts and hospitality program to build a new center in downtown Holyoke that will enable the school to double its size and add an associate’s degree to its certificate program. There are about 40 students in the two-semester certificate program now.

The program should be up and running in the City of Holyoke’s Innovation District by fall of 2016. Having citizens skilled in the culinary arts will be valuable to the city’s ongoing economic revitalization efforts. With additional housing and economic opportunities in the downtown — including new apartments at the former Holyoke Catholic building — the city will greatly benefit from new dining options. Moreover, the influx of students to the downtown will create a greater need for restaurants and shops. This new program will benefit the city in myriad ways.
