Renovated Avery Field Now Open to Public Text Size

Yesterday, several hundred residents gathered in the newly renovated Avery Field to mark the ribbon-cutting of the improved park. Mayor Alex Morse addressed those in attendance about the importance of parks to a safe and vibrant community.

The renovations, which were funded by state and federal grants, include installation of two play structures, a new full basketball court, a new backstop and new player benches, along with new lighting, a new gate at the Oak Street entrance and benches, trash containers and landscaping.

The park is named after Nathan P. Avery, who was Holyoke’s mayor from 1904-1910. It was named for Avery in 1933.
