Maria first invested into downtown Holyoke over 10 years ago. She purchased a building at 396 High Street and began renovating it into what is now M.D. Beauty Salon that Maria owns and operates. Since moving into downtown, Maria has been active in planning activities and beautification projects for downtown Holyoke. She is a cheerleader for the downtown and the business owners. She maintains her property with great pride and is a champion for making the downtown area a better place. She is a new member of the Holyoke Chamber of Commerce and she has recently asked the chamber collaborate with her project to place wreaths on all 80 light poles on High Street. She has been active going door-to-door asking business owners to invest in this holiday beautification project. She took this project head-on and spent her time collecting the majority of the funds and periodically depositing at the chamber. She met with AC Moore and got them to generously discount the price of the wreaths. She followed through with her project and supervised the hanging of all 80 wreaths. Maria exemplifies what the Civic Pride award is all about!
