Arbor Day Ceremony Text Size

The Holyoke Parks & Recreation Department, City Forester John Twohig, and the prestigious emcee of the day, State Representative Aaron Vega cordially invites the public to attend the City of Holyoke’s Annual Arbor Day Celebration on Friday, April 27, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at Donahue School, 210 Whiting Farms Road.

Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in Nebraska in 1872, National Arbor Day is celebrated each year on the last Friday in April.

Thanks to the outstanding efforts of Principal Marc Swygert and Ms. Christine Burns, the students and City Forester John Twohig will plant two fruit trees, to enhance the School’s gardens.  The students at Donahue School have been tending to an edible landscape within its interior playground for a few years.  The afternoon program will also feature a musical presentation by students as well as a poetry reading.

In keeping with tradition, a proclamation by Mayor Alex B. Morse will be read to the students in honor of Arbor Day!

For more information, call the Parks & Recreation Department at (413) 322- 5620.

The Annual Arbor Day Tree Planting Ceremony will take place, rain or shine!
