536 Dwight St. , Holyoke MA- Holyoke City Hall- Ball Room- 2nd floor

The Holyoke Historical Commission graciously invites you to join us on May 21, 2014 at 6:30 to celebrate Preservation Month.  This year’s event will take place at the City Hall’s second floor ballroom.

Holyoke has always prided itself with its significance with its rather unique history and its impact and importance not only to the citizens of Holyoke, but to the Pioneer Valley, the state of Massachusetts and to our great Nation.   The historic buildings and landscapes are an integral part of our city’s growth and contribute to the character of our community. As you know, historic preservation is an effective tool to promote and maintain sustainable development, affordable housing, neighborhood stabilization, downtown revitalization, the arts and culture, economic development and heritage tourism.

Each May, the Holyoke Historical Commission holds a reception to recognize and celebrate the efforts and accomplishments of those individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to preserving Holyoke’s historic properties and areas.  This year, the Commission is also recognizing those homes built over 100 years ago that are listed in the Massachusetts Cultural Resource Information System (MACRIS,) the city’s first inventory of historic properties.  Though this inventory is not complete and not recently updated, there are still, however, 1,191 areas, buildings, burial grounds, objects and structures listed with several homes that are over 200 years old!  This is quite a remarkable achievement, and this year the Commission is recognizing homeowners for being stewards of these historical properties.  Enclosed you will find a copy of the postcard that was sent to individual homeowners whose homes are listed in MACRIS.

Please join us for this festive occasion.  RSVP by May 16th to 413.594.1320 or
