Exhibit opening reception.

Parks to People is a community art project developed by Smith College students and the Performing Citizenship Club of the CHOICES after school program at Peck School in Holyoke. Working together, the students have created artwork that inspires the public to become more engaged with the New England National Scenic Trail, a 215-mile hiking trail from Long Island Sound in CT to the MA/NH border, which includes Mt. Tom State Reservation in Holyoke.

The artwork is the result of field trips to the Histoy Room of the Holyoke Public Library and to Mt. Tom State Reservation.  The exhibit includes installations, maps, drawings, written stories, and advertisement for a PVTA bus.

This project is part of the artwork produced by Carolina Aragón, 2014 Artist-in-Residence for the New England Trail, in collaboration with Molli Mercer, Program Coordinator for the Teen Resource Project – Care Center, students from the Smith College Art & Ecology Studio, and the Performing Citizenship Club middle school students.
