The medal of honor is the nation’s highest medal of valor in combat that can be awarded to members of the armed forces.

From Holyoke’s family, three Medal of Honor recipients are being honored for their service above and beyond the call of duty by distinguishing themselves by acts of valor.

CBM John Mackenzie  ~  U.S. Navy  ~  WWI

     Sgt. Joseph E. Muller  ~  U.S. Army  ~  WWII

     Lt. Raymond O. Beaudoin  ~  U.S. Army  ~  WWII

Highlights will include: Unveiling of the new monument, a speech by Adjutant General Gary W. Keefe of the Massachusetts National Guard, Holyoke Auxiliary Police Color Guard, family descendants, a performance from Lexi Anamasis singing “Veteran’s Hallelujah” and Rick Wallace, Holyoke Caledonian Piper.

Amazingly, Sergeant Joseph Muller and 1st Lieutenant Raymond Beaudoin lived next door to each other on South Summer Street in Holyoke!

Handicap parking will be available on the Maple Street side of Veterans Park.
