Holyoke – HAPHousing invites neighbors of our proposed Library Commons housing development to attend a briefing on Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at 6pm at the Holyoke Public Library. HAPHousing has assembled a site on Chestnut, Essex and Elm Streets on which we are planning to construct 55 rental apartments. Our plans call for 19 of the apartments to be rented at market rate, with 36 apartments to be rented to families earning up to 60% of Area Median Income (AMI). For a family of four, 60% of AMI is an annual income of $51,540.

This meeting will provide neighborhood residents with an early look at plans for re-use of buildings located at 193-203 Chestnut Street, 117 Essex Street and 210 Elm Street. HAP also plans to construct a new building on a vacant lot at the corner of Chestnut Street and Essex Street. A large vacant parcel at Elm Street and Appleton Street will be used for parking for future residents of Library Commons.

As part of Library Commons, HAPHousing will also redevelop a 19-unit building currently managed by HAP and located at the corner of Dwight and Clinton.

HAPHousing named its new development Library Commons to reflect the successful restoration and expansion of the nearby Holyoke Public Library. The library was closed for nearly two years while it underwent a $14.5 million transformation to a state-of-the-art facility. HAPHousing views the library as a cornerstone around which the neighborhood can continue to develop.

See you at the meeting!
