Legacy of Music Concert Text Size
Event takes place on July 26, 2014 at 7:00 PM
Wistariahurst Museum 238 Cabot Street
With funding support from the Holyoke Cultural Council and the Country Dance and Song Society, Jacqueline Cooper and Wistariahurst Museum are inviting you on a journey. Cooper has spent the last few months researching stories and anecdotes dating back from the 1800’s to the 1950’s, and shared personal music-related memories from residents of Holyoke and nearby towns. The results of this search will be a song and story-telling performance inclusive of the live music that was played, sung, danced to and enjoyed by hard working people in the heart of the Pioneer Valley. These songs and stories will be performed in concert at Wistariahurst and at Holyoke’s Senior Center on July 26 and 27. The concerts are a culmination of a week long immersion workshop, where a storyteller and amateur musicians, mentored by seasoned musicians, develop the performance with a “passing it on” tradition that is inherent in the nature of the music.
Cooper is collaborating with the museum as the project director and is working to develop a mentorship program where local musicians can further their skills and have fun. There will be a call for musicians to form a band, learn a play list of music during a week-long workshop and present the two performances. The performances will take place on Saturday, July 26 at Wistariahurst Museum at 7 p.m.
Tickets $12 general / $10 students. Get tickets at our site by clicking here
