Reading Frederick Douglas Together: Celebrating the Legacy of Frederick Douglas

Join the Council for Human Understanding as we celebrate the legacy of Frederick Douglass with a community reading of one of his most famous speeches.  “What to the Slave is the fourth of July”.

Sponsored by Mass Humanities and the Mass Cultural Council, the FREE event will be held at 1:00PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 485 Appleton Street, Holyoke.  The reading will be introduced with music by St. Paul’s Church Organist Curtis Mercier.

This event is free, and all are encouraged to attend and participate in the reading and singing of “Lift Every Voice and Sing”.

Free refreshments will be provided.
