Holyoke Veterans Tax Work Off Program Now Accepting Applications Text Size

The Holyoke Veterans Tax Work off Program for 2017 is now accepting applications. This is the 5th year that the City of Holyoke has offered this program to Veterans and Widows of Veterans who own homes in the city.

If you are a Holyoke veteran, you can reduce your real estate taxes on your home. Eligible Veterans who are chosen can volunteer 100 hours for the city and receive an abatement of $1,000 off of their property taxes.

In the past, volunteers in the tax-break program have worked int he Mayor’s Office, Parks and Recreation, Library, Conservation, Tax Collector and other department. They answer phones, file documents, shelve books, paint and do minor repairs at Wistariahurst and maintain gardens.

This program is limited to 20 positions and was adopted by the state legislature and supported by the Mayor and City Council. Mayor Morse found this to be a great way to engage veterans in municipal initiatives and stipend them for their involvement.

Applications are available at the Veteran Services department located on the first floor of the War Memorial Building, 310 Appleton St. Holyoke MA. The deadline to submit applications will be April 28, 2017.
