Good News for Holyoke and the Fire Department Text Size

The City of Holyoke and the Holyoke Fire Department received a $668,115 federal grant to pay the salary and benefits of 5 firefighters for the next two years, and another $116,010 for operations and safety that will allow the city to improve its fire and police communications systems.

This is the first time the HFD has received such grants, and this funding provides much needed budget relief over the next few years. Mayor Morse also recently approved funding to purchase at least two new firetrucks to replace their aging fleet.

“This is great news,” commented Mayor Morse. “It is a direct financial benefit to the city and allows us to keep staffing at the same level, without this expense to the city.”
