City of Holyoke to Reopen Former Suffolk Street Parking Garage Starting January 20 Text Size

The City of Holyoke will reopen the Suffolk Street Parking Garage for public parking starting Tuesday,  January 20, returning 400 parking spaces to the downtown parking inventory. Hourly parking will be available on the upper level accessible from High Street, while monthly lease parking will be available on the lower level off Heritage Street. Customers who desire a monthly lease at this facility should contact the City’s parking contractor Valet Park of America at 209-2590 to arrange for an access pass. The hourly parking rate is $0.25 while a monthly lease costs $20.

The City Council recently voted to rename the garage in honor of William Taupier. Signage to reflect the name change is being prepared for installation.

The City has recently completed an eighteen month, $5.5 million renovation of the garage which included the demolition and reconstruction of the concrete deck, new energy efficient LED lighting, plumbing, paint, and parking control equipment. The project was designed by Walker Parking Consultants of Boston and construction was performed by W.J. Mountford of South Windsor CT.

The garage will employ new state-of-the-art access control equipment. This new equipment will allow customers to self-pay for parking at the exit without the need for an attendant. Staff from Valet Park of America will be available daily to assist customers and maintain the facility.
