It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the year…
There are many reasons why the people of Holyoke love their city, but one reason that is prominent for many residents is the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Parade weekend, and the many events preceding it, is a time for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and celebrate the city’s rich history. The city welcomes the thousands of spectators who come from far and wide each year to be a part of our festivities. The city is fortunate to the many hardworking volunteers, Parade Committee members, and city employees who put countless hours into the planning of this weekend. It is their dedication and loyalty to Holyoke that helps make this nationally ranked parade such a success each year.
Friday night of the holiday weekend the city’s downtown area is filled with big white tents full of crowds and Irish music surrounding the city’s several bars and pubs. Saturday the 38th Annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Road Race starts downtown at the beginning of Maple Street at 1:00 PM. Preceding the Road Race is the Kids Fun Race at 11:00 AM for children ages 2-10 years old at the intersection of Maple and Hampden Street. For musical entertainment there’s the popular Mummers Concert starting around noon. Finally on Sunday at 11:30 AM begins the 62nd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade filled with floats, marchers, and distinguished honored guests.
Events like the St. Patrick’s Day Parade make Holyoke an attractive place to live, work, and play. The parade is representative not only of Holyoke’s Irish history, but is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together to embrace the diversity that our great city has to offer. On this weekend, everyone is Irish, and everyone is encouraged to celebrate the brighter days in Holyoke’s future!
