Please join SPARK:Holyoke in welcoming its first featured lecturer as part of its SPARK:Live series, Jorge Silva Puras, Distinguished Lecturer on Business and Entrepreneurship at Hostos Community College at the City University of New York (CUNY) and former Regional Administrator for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) for New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The lecture and discussion will take place on Thursday, April 9 from 6-8PM in the Community Room of the Holyoke Public Library at 250 Chestnut Street. The event is free of charge and will include ample time for a Question & Answer period following the presentation.

Silva Puras is the author of Crowdful: How to be Successful in Business with Help from the Crowd, and has launched a crowfunding campaign to publish the book (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/crowdful-crowdfunding-and-crowdsourcing).
At the lecture, Silva Puras will cover topics from his book and offer his experience on entrepreneurship, and how crowdfunding can be a valuable tool to aid small businesses.
This will be the first of a series of events, lectures, and discussions that will promote an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Holyoke, as part of the SPARK:Live series. SPARK helps people turn their business concepts into reality, by linking them to the right local resources to get on the path to success.

ABOUT JORGE SILVA PURAS
Jorge Silva Puras is the Distinguished Lecturer on Business and Entrepreneurship at Hostos Community College in the City University of New York (CUNY). Previous to his current positions, he was appointed by President Barack Obama as the Regional Administrator at the United States Small Business Administration for Region II which includes New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands. He, served in that capacity from May 2010 until January of 2013, when he joined the Hostos faculty.
Mr. Silva Puras has served in several senior government positions at the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, including Chief of Staff to former Governor Aníbal Acevedo Vilá from June 2006 until December 2008. Prior to his appointment as Chief of Staff, he served as Secretary of the Puerto Rico Department of Economic Development and Commerce, and as Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Industrial Development Company (PRIDCO). As Secretary, he served as Chairman of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company, the Puerto Rico Commerce & Trade Company, the Roosevelt Roads Redevelopment Authority, and the Puerto Rico Land Administration, among several others.
Mr. Silva Puras is a 1988 graduate of Yale University, received a Juris Doctor with Honors from the University of Puerto Rico, and a MBA in International Management from the University of Texas at Austin and the Copenhagen Business School.
