      Orders

  • Introduced by Committee member Whelihan that the School Department purchase a copy of children’s book “A Home Run for Bunny” for each elementary school library in the Holyoke School District. This is an illustrated book written by Springfield College professor Richard Andersen. It tells the story of the Springfield American Legion Post 21 stand against racism in a 1934 baseball tournament held in Gastonia, North Carolina.
  • Introduced by Committee member Sheehan that a report be provided to the School Committee at the May 19, 2014 meeting of all renters of school facilities that are not current on payment as of May 1, 2014.
  • Introduced by Committee member Sheehan that administration bring forward policy changes necessary to be in compliance with Chapter 222 of the Acts of 2012, an Act relative to student access to educational services and exclusion from school, at the May 19, 2014 meeting

Proposed Policy on Distribution of Flyers (page 21)

RECOMMENDATION:  That the School Committee refer the proposed policy on Distribution of Flyers to the Communications and Policies Subcommittee

RECOMMENDATION:  That the School Committee vote to receive and discuss, including discussion of possible appeal.

 Lynch School (pages 101-102)

RECOMMENDATION:  That the School Committee vote to request that Lynch School be returned to the School Department for use as an educational facility.

8.  EXECUTIVE SESSION

 

The listing of matters are those reasonably anticipated by the Chair which may be discussed at the meeting. Not all items listed may in fact be discussed and other items not listed may also be brought up for discussion to the extent permitted by law.

*The Holyoke Public Schools makes available a public discussion period for persons in the audience to address the Committee on specific agenda items.  In order to hear as many speakers as possible, the Committee asks individuals to continue their remarks to two (2) minutes.  Any person wishing to submit longer testimony should give copies to the Superintendent before the meeting so that it may be distributed to Committee members.  The speaker can then summarize this testimony at the meeting within the two (2) minute time period.  Persons wishing to speak should register with the Superintendent immediately before the meeting begins.  Individuals who request specific items to be included on the Committee’s agenda should mail a written request fifteen (15) days in advance of a Committee meeting date to the Superintendent of Schools, 57 Suffolk Street, Holyoke, MA  01040.
