Ordered that the Department of Public Works and Parks & Recreation inspect all playground areas and fix/repair areas that need attention ASAP. Also that new wood chips be added in to all playground areas.

Ordered that the Department of Public Works install multiple dog waste stations at Springdale Park and review all City Parks. There are multiple soccer teams that are utilizing the park and disrespectful dog owners are not picking up after their dogs.

Ordered, that the DPW & Parks repair and replace any lighting at Chestnut Street Park, also the DPW & Park and Recreation Department change the lighting timing for Chestnut Street Park to have lighting on overnight.

  • Received from Alicia Zoeller, Administrator, Office for Community Development, May 10, 2016 informing the Department that Soucey Park has been awarded $60,000 (CDBG) for park improvements.

Projects that will not be funded through CDBG are: Crosier Field Tennis Courts, Public Parks Signs and Springdale Pedestrian Lighting Projects.

  • Status of Pouliot Pool – the PARC Grant was submitted in July for a $400,000 reimbursable grant. A site visit was conducted in August with Melissa Cryan and Director Shepard at the pool. Funding decisions should be announced in November or December in 2016.
  • Summer Feeding Sites – Carlos Vega, Springdale, Veterans, South Chestnut Street and Community Field were sites for the Summer Feeding Program that served free lunches from June 29, 2016 through August 28, 2016.
  • Update on Suburban Basketball – Gymnasium request to Holyoke School Department
  • Review of Summer Programs
  • Review of Senior Fest


10. Review of Summer Staff & New Hires (New hires in bold print)

  • Swim/Gym Program – Holyoke High School. Monday, June 27th – Friday August 12th. 3:00 – 6:00 pm Monday – Friday. Brian Hungerford, Aquatics Director, Samantha Kelly, Shawna Lemieux, Mark Girard and Maura Shea, Lifeguards. Donald Provost, Gym Director, support staff, Kimberly Hoyt, Nate Hernandez, Naomi Walker, Nicolas Vega-Frey and Alexandra Lopez.
