Mother’s Day at HG&E’s Robert E. Barrett Fishway Text Size
Event takes place on May 12, 2013 at 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM
Bridge Street, Holyoke, MA 01040
The Barrett Fishway, owned and operated by Holyoke Gas & Electric, consists of two elevators or “lifts” which carry migrating fish up and over the Holyoke Dam. Visitors can watch the lifts in action from an observation deck overlooking the Connecticut River. Last year, over 500,000 fish (and nearly 11,000 guests) visited the facility during the seasonal viewing period.
Continuing a decade-old tradition, all mothers visiting the Fishway on Sunday, May 12th from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., will receive a free carnation to commemorate Mother’s Day and the spirit of re-birth on the Connecticut River.
Located off Bridge Street (Route 116) in Holyoke, just west of the South Hadley-Holyoke Bridge, the Holyoke Fishway’s 2013 season runs from May 8 through June 16, 2012, hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The facility is closed on Monday and Tuesday, with the exception of Monday, May 28 (Memorial Day) from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
