Holyoke History Room Guest Lecture: “John B. McCormick and the Hercules Turbine Water Wheel”
Holyoke Public Library Community Room
Charlie Lotspeich, historian and educator at Holyoke Heritage State Park, has made the evolution and application of water power in Holyoke a special focus of his work. Lotspeich’s talk will tell the story of John B. McCormick’s innovative water wheel designs, which he developed at the Holyoke Machine Company and at J. & W. Jolly in the late nineteenth century. Lotspeich will place these inventions in the larger context of the development of water power in Holyoke and explain how they ushered in a “new era in hydrodynamics.”
Free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Holyoke History Room.
