Local Emergency Planning Committee Hazardous Materials Management Task Force
Chairman: Mike Gorski, Environmental, Safety, Health Mgr., Rexam Graphics
The Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC) and Hazardous Materials Management Task Force (HAZMAT) play significant roles in public safety for Holyoke and the surrounding communities. The LEPC is made up of representatives from the Police and Fire Departments, local manufacturers, officials from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency, and other public and private safety officials. The LEPC and HAZMAT address such safety concerns as hazardous materials management, natural disaster and emergency response planning and drills, emergency shelter coordination and all aspects of public safety. The LEPC takes a proactive approach to response preparedness and was recently certified as one of only seven fully certified LEPCs in Massachusetts.
The LEPC also provides a forum for local
manufacturers to discuss their safety issues with their peers and public safety officials.
The City of Holyoke LEPC meets the last Thursday of each month with the exception of
November and December. Meetings take place in the City Hall Council Chamber at 7:30 a.m.
and are open to the public.
